Bihar Plan for 2013-14 Finalized; Focus on Water Supply and Sanitation

New Delhi, May 15, 2013: The Annual Plan for the year 2013-14 for Bihar was finalized here today at a meeting between Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister of Bihar, Sh. Nitish Kumar. The plan size has been agreed at Rs. 34,000crore.
Deputy Chairman Planning Commission complemented the State Government for plan performance and for achieving higher growth rate during 11th five year plan period.

Increase in the Number of cases of Violence Against Women in Toilet-less Rural Bihar

Patna, Jan 17, 2013: At least 400 women and adolescent girls in Bihar would have escaped rape in 2012 had the state government provided toilets to all the households in the state under the Centre-sponsored Total Sanitation Scheme (TSC), now christened Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA). That's official - sort of.
According to police records, rape cases averaged 980-odd every year in Bihar between 2006 and 2011. In the year just gone by, 872 cases of rape were reported till November.

85 percent toilet-less homes in rural Bihar ; Only 1% indicate health as a motivator for having a toilet

Bihar Government to invest over Rs 40,000 cr for health & sanitation

Patna, Apr 6, 2013: Bihar government has decided to improve health and sanitation in the state in the next five years with an investment of Rs 41,656 crore, Chief Secretary A K Sinha said today.
The statement was made by Sinha after a review meeting of the Human Development Mission by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The state government had set up seven committees under the Mission last year and asked each of them to frame roadmap for works to be undertaken in the next five years.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) had sanctioned Rs 110 crore for installation of a waste recycling plant but the work could not take off due to the delay by the PMC officials.
